Présentation/résumé de la thèse

It is a microeconometric and spatial analysis of the social determinants of environmental inequalities in China. The transition of the Chinese economy to a market economy is a major challenge both economically and environmentally. The strong growth rates recorded over the past several years have increased the income level of Chinese households but have not been able to meet the challenges of reducing the growing inequalities. The sustainability of the Chinese development model is also questioned when it comes to assessing the impact of this development mode on the quality of the environment. The primary objective of this research is to analyze in depth and rigorously the impact of inequalities on the quality of the environment in China. The Chinese government's trade-off between policies to reduce inequality and environmental protection should be based on a solid foundation and reliable information on the relationship between these two variables and their interactions with other variables, spatial, cultural, human capital-related, migration-related, etc.). Special attention will also be paid to the determinants of emissions (direct and indirect) of Chinese households and to the factors that may explain the inequalities between households at this level. The ambition is to provide these decision-makers with a scientifically robust contribution.
